I'm calling this piece Abologna because it's an abalone shell and I literally spent weeks on this (including my entire spring break and I had to take a day off of school in order to finish this), it's literally a bunch of Bologna how much time I spent on this; plus I'm an artist, if I want to name it something I spent weeks of hard work doing something stupid then I will dang it!
For this project we had to pick something in nature (or something interesting in general that the teacher approved) and draw an up-close version of it. So I picked an abalone shell I bought from this old couple at a flea market (they were really nice too and gave me a discount because I was a bit short on cash, they were also very informative and helpful as well!) I was originally going to do an up close photo of a citrus fruit because it seemed fun and interesting but I could never get some in time for me to start the project. So I thought "Hey, an abalone shell would be easy, colorful, pretty, and fun to do haha!" Oh poor naive past me, I was so wrong.
Well I mean it was really fun and it turned out really cool but boy that's enough eternal suffering for one year! And I swear I used every single prismacolor pencil (except silver and gold) in the entire 48-pencil box in order to get the colors right. I also tried to pay as much attention to detail as I could and get every single curve and shape right, prismacolors can also take forever to use so I was still working on it for a few weeks after this project was considered over with in class so this seriously tested my patience and I fell like I might have gotten a little too messy in some places but I think I got through it okay and overall it turned out really well! I actually don't regret choosing this idea for this project at all and I loved using all of these colors even though it was a huge inconvenience for me time-wise, but I'm still absolutely in love with this project's idea and I feel like this is one of my best pieces.
