For this project I wanted to have an old lady feeding these furnace birds pieces of coal At first in this project I wasn't really sure how to take it from theory and put it on paper, or what type of medium to use, so I tried to be really thorough with studies and trying to show what exactly was going on in this piece. At first I wanted her to be in a junkyard or something, but then I was afraid it would take away from the actual idea of nature turns mechanical, and take the emphasis off the grandma and the birds. So then I tried to put grandma in a field with the birds inspired by my trips to Henderson to see my grandma because it's a really rural area with a lot of farms and old landscapes.
I unfortunately had to put this piece down earlier than I wanted to with the quarter ending and everything was piling up to the point where I really couldn't handle it anymore. I want to go back and add a couple of machine parts or broken down farm equipment in the background, make the landscape look more scrappy, maybe put one or two birds in there and on the branch that's in front of the grandma, have one holding a piece of coal in it's beak, because you don't really get any coal from this piece, it just looks like a grandma with some machine birds in a field; add something a little more decorative to the apron, give it some of that sort of tacky grandma style to it, or add some kind of floral print or other pattern to it, or something that was made in an arts and crafts class by one of her grandchildren.
